Netflix viewers have found themselves disgusted after tuning in to watch a new Christmas movie on the platform – only to be presented with an ‘unnecessary’ depiction of ‘incest’.

Family Switch – starring Jennifer Garner, Ed Helms, Emma Myers and Brady Noon – tells the tale of a family who inadvertently switch bodies after a peculiar encounter at a planetarium.

Daughter CC switches with her mum Jess, while son Wyatt switches places with his dad Bill… and so, as can be expected in any body swap comedy, chaos ensues.

While some viewers have found the movie amusing and enjoyable, others couldn’t help but feel utterly horrified by the direction of the story, during a particular interaction between CC and Wyatt when they are in their parents’ bodies.

In the scene, CC (while appearing as her mother Jess) is joined by a group of women at her house, one of which shares that she’s been told that ‘couples need a minimum of 12 kisses a day just to sustain a relationship’.

Despite CC (as Jess) claiming that she and her husband have ‘kissed like 14 times’ that day, the friends aren’t convinced, and begin to chant for the couple to share a smooch.

Wyatt (who’s appearing as his dad Bill) is resistant to the idea, but finally relents when his sister claims that the women must be onto them, and they need to kiss to prove otherwise.

They finally lock lips, both gagging throughout the highly uncomfortable moment.

It’s made clear in the scene that the siblings are repulsed by what they’ve just done – and some viewers who caught the flick on Netflix felt the exact same way.

‘I’m watching that new movie called Family Switch and oh my lord the sudden incest is smth that was so unexpected and unnecessary…,’ one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

‘The random incest in Family Switch caught me so off guard,’ someone else said, while another added: ‘The incest in Family Switch was NOT needed.’

Film journalist Courtney Howard also remarked: ‘Family Switch marks a real low point body-swap comedies as it steals from all others before it without compunction. But you can thank your lucky stars they don’t go for the lowest hanging fruit: incest jokes.

‘Just kidding. Those are there. I had you.’

In a recent interview, Jennifer addressed the two references that are made in Family Switch to her classic 2004 movie 13 Going On 30, when her character Jenna, who’s 13 years old, wakes up in her 30-year-old body.

‘My favourite thing about this genre or this sub-genre of comedy is how physical you can be, and that you’re allowed to make faces and you’re allowed to just kind of go for it in a way that, typically, we’re all trying to be more subtle and that is not really my… that’s not where I live,’ she told ComingSoon.Net.

Family Switch is available to watch on Netflix.
