Phil Taylor will retire from darts for a second time in 2024, after one more year on the World Seniors circuit as something of a farewell tour for the legendary 16-time world champion.

The Power retired from the PDC after losing the 2018 World Championship final to Rob Cross, bringing down an epic career at the highest level.

He returned to action in 2022 on the newly former World Seniors Tour and has continued to compete with other veterans of the oche.

However, the 63-year-old has decided that the end is coming for his playing days, but he will play one more year of seniors action before bowing out at the end of 2024.

‘I’ll always love performing to the best of my ability, but time waits for no man, and I know now is the right time to step away from the Tour,’ he said via his darts manufacturers Target.

‘It’s been an unbelievable journey over the past 35 years, and I’ve loved every minute of it. I’d like to thank Target and the World Seniors Darts Tour for their support in recent years and I’m looking forward to playing in front of darts fans across the country next year.

‘I’m going to be working just as hard as I always have to make sure I give the fans what they want and go out on top.’

Taylor admitted that his level of performance, while still good, is too far away from his game of old for him to enjoy it.

He told the Daily Star: ‘At the end of next year, I am going to retire from competition darts – unless I do nine-darters every time and then you will have to drag me out.

‘When you are not performing like you can do, it breaks my heart. It wasn’t just me, people were saying things in the crowd, they had paid money to come and see you, you are trying so hard.

‌’There was no sarcasm, nobody was nasty, they were lovely. They wanted me to win and I was trying, but you can’t flick a switch and turn it on.’

Thank you Phil for everything, without you @PhilTaylor their would never have been a @SeniorsDarts tour. thanks for the kind words pic.twitter.com/YGPnEmR4Ue
