Love Island star Faye Winter was left ‘paralysed’ after some seriously dodgy sounding Botox.
The 28-year-old reality star has opened up about a horrendous ordeal, in which she was injected with Botox by an ‘untrained’ administrator’ administrator and was left with temporary facial paralysis as a result.
The scary incident happened to Faye, who appeared on the seventh series of the show in 2021, just before entering the Love Island villa.
Her usual nurse was away, so the Celebrity MasterChef star opted for a different person to inject her with the muscle-relaxing toxin, designed to help smooth out wrinkles in the face.
Unfortunately, Faye explained to Closer, that she later realised he wasn’t ‘medically qualified’ and shortly after the procedure her eyebrows and eyelids had dropped, and her forehead was ‘completely paralysed’.
‘When my regular Botox nurse was on holiday, I went to someone who I mistakenly believed was medically qualified,’ she said. She appeared on the reality show in 2021 (Picture: ITV/REX/Shutterstock) Faye assumed her practitioner was ‘qualified’ but in hindsight thinks he wasn’t (Picture: @faye_winter/Instagram) There is currently no rigid country-wide legal framework regulating non-surgical cosmetic procedures, Faye pointed out (Picture: @faye_winter/Instagram)
‘He put the Botox in and within days my eyebrows had dropped into a frown position, and I had droopy eyelids. It completely paralysed my forehead, ruined my face and felt terrifying.’
Explaining her situation to the practitioner, he advised there was nothing he could do and it was just a waiting game.
Faye admitted to the publication that she cried for weeks, trying to fix her botched new face with tape to stretch her skin upwards.
The reality star also pointed out the lack of regulations in the industry, explaining how while all food businesses have health and safety standards, with cosmetic procedures, practitioners don’t even have to wear gloves.
Indeed, there is currently no legislation offering a consistent system of regulation in England and no nationally-set training and qualification requirements for practitioners offering these treatments.
In March last year an amendment to the Health and Care Bill was passed, which gives the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care the power to introduce such a national regulation.Faye was coupled up with Teddy Soares on the show, and they remained together until their split earlier this year (Picture: @faye_winter/Instagram) Faye also appeared on Celebrity Masterchef last year (Picture: @faye_winter/Instagram)
The new scheme – currently in the consultation phase – will make it an offence for practitioners and their premises to work without a licence.
It will also make it illegal to treat anyone under the age of 18 with such treatments.
Elsewhere, Faye explained how – self conscious her lips didn’t ‘frame’ her face, and swayed by one-sided Instagram ads – she began getting lip fillers aged 24.
She’s saw ‘amazing’ before and after snaps on Instagram from businesses offering cheap deals, but in hindsight she realises these pages are only going to show the successful procedures – not the botched ones.
A recent breast cancer scare made Faye reassess her relationship with her body, and she wants to get rid of her breast implants which she first got two months after her 18th birthday.
‘I want to be able to appreciate my body in a more natural way and when you have a scare, you see your body through a different lens,’ she said.
