Premier League trio Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, along with German giants Bayern Munich, are all reportedly interested in Brentford full-back Aaron Hickey.
The 21-year-old Scotland international has been in impressive form for both club and country, attracting the attention of some of the world’s biggest clubs.
Hickey has taken a unique path on his young career so far, moving from Hearts to Bologna in 2020, then sufficiently impressing in Serie A to switch to Brentford in the Premier League last summer.
The Scot made 26 top flight appearances last season and has started all six Premier League games so far this campaign, chiefly at right-back, but now filling in at left-back after the season-ending injury to Rico Henry.
The Mirror report that Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are all well aware of the progress Hickey is making and are keen on snapping him up next year.
However, he won’t be cheap, with the Mirror’s report suggesting he will cost around £50m, still under contract with the Bees until 2026.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has been open about the club being open to selling their top players, although they will insist on a significant fee for them.
‘I think every club in the world are a selling club except five or six clubs. We are a selling club,’ Frank told Sky Sporst.
‘If the right price is there and I think if the timing is right for the players to go, I think if they have developed well with us and been on the journey, they have proven to be good enough to play at the top clubs, then I think it’s the right thing [to sell them] at the right price.’
Commenting on Hickey’s versatility, Frank said: ‘With Aaron there is a lot of talk about whether he is a right back or a left-back, but I am in that privileged position that he can play on both sides and will most likely go on the left.
‘He is both-footed and has huge ability, we don’t have that many full-backs so he is very important. He is a player we signed a year ago with big ambitions and his future and it is going in the right direction for him.’
