A 15-year-old girl who died after getting into difficulty while swimming has been named and pictured.
Erin Madden was described as a ‘beautiful soul’ by her devastated friends and family.
She died following an incident at the Carr Mill Dam in St Helens yesterday.
The teenager and friends had been swimming at the body of water when Erin reportedly got into difficulty.
Her mother, Kirsty, said that her daughter was ‘capable of anything’ and had had her ‘whole life ahead of her’ in an emotional tribute shared online today.
She posted the message on the St Helens Borough Council Facebook page, after the local authority warned people of the dangers of swimming in open water following Erin’s death.
Kirsty wrote: ‘This dam needs draining my daughter lost her life in there yesterday. How many more times does this need to keep happening to children until something is done.

‘We are all devastated beyond words and my life will never be the same again. I love you Erin with my heart and soul forever and always.’
Erin’s friends had raised the alarm around 12.30pm yesterday, with emergency services carrying out a multi-agency response to try trace the schoolgirl.
Her body was recovered from the water later that night.
A fundraising page has set up in the wake of Erin’s death, encouraging people to share what they can to support her family.

She wrote: ‘My friend and her family lost their beautiful daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend due to a tragic accident that should never have happened. She had the rest of her life to look forward to she was a beautiful soul inside and out she be gone but never forgotten.’
St Helens Borough Council have warned people of the ‘very real’ dangers of swimming in open water.
Debris and cold temperatures can take people by surprise, no matter how warm the weather is.
The local authority said it would continue to work with emergency services to keep young people safe and educate them on the dangers posed.
Last night, Merseyside Police Chief Inspector for St Helens Paul Holden said: ‘It is with great sadness that we can confirm that the body of the teenage girl has been recovered from the water. Our sincere condolences go to her family and friends during this tragic time.
‘I would appeal to anyone who was visiting Carr Mill Dam at around midday onwards to please get in touch so we can ascertain what happened and provide her family with answers.’
Erin’s death came after two teenagers lost their lives in the water at Bournemouth Beach.
The following day, a man’s body was recovered from a lake in Sunderland after he failed to return from an open water swimming session.
