Phillip Schofield has confessed to ‘snapping’ at a producer on This Morning, which has been hit with claims of a ‘toxic’ culture.

The former Dancing On Ice presenter, 61, stepped down from the ITV daytime show amid rumours of a fallout with co-star Holly Willoughby, 42.

The following week, Schofield admitted to having an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a younger runner on This Morning and quit the broadcaster with ‘immediate effect.’

Since then, This Morning has been hit with accusations of ‘toxicity’, notably from its former TV medic Dr Ranj Singh, who said he found himself being ‘used less and less’ when he raised concerns with bosses.

Former This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes also branded Schofield and ITV bosses as ‘toxic’ in a bombshell interview with GB News, adding: ‘The toxicity is with you and your friends in management and everybody who kept you in power and in abuse of power for so long.’

Schofield then appeared to address suggestions of the unhappy atmosphere, insisting that there is ‘no toxicity’, with Dr Ranj appearing to respond with a now-deleted Instagram: ‘Oh honey… I have receipts.’

In a Friday one-off interview with Amol Rajan for the BBC, Schofield said he ‘snapped at a producer’ around the time he came out as gay live on the programme in 2020.

He continued: ‘I snapped at one of our producers. After the meeting, I immediately got up and went to her and apologised.

‘It’s not me. I don’t do that. I’m not rude on the studio floor. I don’t bully people. I don’t laud it around. We’re a very one-level team.’

In response to Dr Ranj’s ‘toxic’ claims, an ITV spokesperson told Metro.co.uk at the time: ‘We are sorry to read Dr Ranj’s post today. At ITV we are fully committed to providing every opportunity for anyone who works with us to raise any concern or comments they may have.

‘Following a complaint made by Dr Ranj, we appointed an external and independent advisor to carry out a review. This external review found no evidence of bullying or discrimination.’
