Harrison Ford made a rare comment about fatherhood in a new interview, admitting that he probably would have been a better parent if his Hollywood career hadn’t taken off.
The Indiana Jones icon, 80, is dad to Benjamin and Willard, who he shares with ex-wife Mary Marquardt, and Malcolm and Georgia, with late screenwriter Melissa Mathison.
He also adopted wife Calista Flockart’s son, Liam, when they tied the knot in 2010 – and the couple were recently spotted beaming with pride at the 22-year-old’s graduation.
In a hugely candid new interview with Esquire, he opened up about his private life, explaining: ‘I can tell you this: If I’d been less successful, I’d probably be a better parent.’
‘I think that’s tantamount to “I know who the f**k I am”,’ he continued in reference to his highly-publicized interview with the Hollywood Reporter. ‘Which I still get s**t about from my wife, like I don’t take mental health seriously.
‘I do take mental health seriously. I was trying to say, as I explained to her: It’s that I accommodate all of the flaws that people go to psychiatrists to accommodate, because I accept my flaws.Harrison opened up about his family life in a candid interview (Picture: Ruvén Afanador / Esquire) The interview is available in full in Esquire (Picture: Ruvén Afanador / Esquire)
‘I accept my flaws and my failures – I don’t accept them, I own them.
‘And certainly the more constant gardener is the better parent, and I’ve been out of town, up my own ass, for most of my life.’
Calista, 58, adopted Liam as a child in 2001, and revealed that she was ‘enchanted’ by the little one at the time.Harrison is dad to five children – Benjamin, Willard, Malcolm, Georgia and Liam (Picture: WireImage) Calista Flockhart shares son Liam with Harrison (Picture: Shutterstock)
‘I have always wanted to adopt a child and I am overjoyed that I have been blessed with a beautiful and healthy son,’ the Supergirl actress said in a statement.
‘I’m completely enchanted and awe-struck.’
The following year, her world changed again when she met Harrison at the 2002 Golden Globes, and they were inseparable from then on.

Harrison has remained guarded about his life as a dad-of-five, but previously confessed that he had been ‘taught a lot’ by his brood over the years.
‘I’ve got five kids in total, so it’s not my first rodeo,’ he previously told the Independent.
‘Yeah, obviously, I’m getting older but I don’t relate to it very much. It doesn’t interest me as something to dwell on. I have a 9-year-old kid at home. I feel like the father of a 9-year-old.
‘My older children have taught me a lot about parenting. My first child was born when I was 25. I reckon I’m a little better at it now.’
