The family of a five-year-old girl who died in a fire say they have been overwhelmed with donations from their community.

Alysia Salisbury died after the blaze broke out at her home in Pontyglasier, south Wales, on Saturday night.

Emergency services arrived shortly before 10pm but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alysia’s two older sisters – aged 10 and 12 – were rescued by firefighters but the family including mum Tara and dad Josh have lost their home and belongings.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Alysia’s funeral and neighbours are collecting clothes, linen and other basics for the family.

Beccy Eynon, a family friend, said donations will also go towards finding them a new home.

She said: ‘Alysia was a sweet, happy little girl who loved animals and the great outdoors.

‘She was happiest out in the rain wearing nothing but a T-shirt and shorts. She adored her two older sisters, Abigail and Jessica, and they took such good care of her.’

Councillor and collection organiser, Shon Rees, said: ‘It is awful beyond words. Not only have they lost a lovely little girl but everything they owned has gone up in flames.

‘Every stitch of clothing – they even had to borrow a phone charger to contact family.

‘But people are being very generous. Everyone feels for them and are giving everything they can.

‘Our thoughts at present are with the family during this awful and tragic time.

‘This family has lost absolute everything, including a young child, and we as a community are doing everything we possibly can to support them.

‘People are already rallying round with clothing and food and I know that this is going to continue in the days, weeks and months that lie ahead.’

As of this morning, £10,145 has been raised by people donating to the fundraiser which was set with a £10,000 goal.

An inquest is due to be held and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
