Despite trailing Arsenal by eight points earlier in the season, Manchester City stormed ahead of the Gunners during the run-in to claim a third successive title triumph.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won the title in five of the past six campaigns and now turn their attentions to a historic treble bid ahead of the upcoming FA Cup and Champions League finals.

Arsenal led the title race for 248 days but a poor run of form from April onwards cost Mikel Arteta’s side a shot at a first title since 2004.

Aguero expects the Gunners to challenge once again next season and says ‘we must not forget’ about Manchester United, who have enjoyed a promising first season under Erik ten Hag.

United have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson retired a decade ago but the Red Devils finished third this season and secured their first piece of silverware in six years.

‘A new title and a well-deserved one,’ Manchester City legend Aguero wrote in a column for Stake.

‘It was a different start due to the fact that the World Cup was played and that influenced the fact that in that first part of the season the performance was not optimal.

‘However, they were able to resume their path and the final sprint was magnificent, as City has become accustomed to.

‘I said it before; this team always fights until the end, and it was demonstrated once again by getting past Arsenal who had achieved a considerable advantage.

‘On this basis, and with this recent history, City will continue to be a candidate next season.

‘It has been shown that it is the best team in the Premier League, with a very clear style of play, which has won three consecutive titles, something difficult to achieve.

‘Why not think then that you can get another? Surely, as he does every season, Pep will continue to make the adjustments he deems necessary to remain competitive.

‘But this is the Premier League and it is football, there will be several teams that try to dethrone them.

‘I think that Arsenal has established a very important base of young players with a long way to go. Mikel Arteta will try to reinforce his lines and will be one of the rivals to beat next season.

‘We must not forget about Manchester United either, who have returned to their competitive spirit and will be one of those who most want to defeat City.’
