Kim Cattrall walked away from the role of Samantha Jones who she played in Sex and the City, but her new show has a connection to its reboot And Just Like That…

The second series of And Just Like That… will premiere on June 22, and Kim’s new project Glamorous will be dropped on the very same day.

Although this could be a complete coincidence, it does ironically feel like something Samantha Jones would plan at her PR firm.

Kim has previously spoken about not being asked to be in the sequel. The last time she played Samantha was in 2010 in the second film.

‘I was never asked to be part of the reboot. I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media.’

Sarah Jessica Parker, who is an executive producer on And Just Like That, corroborated her story.

‘We did not ask her to be part of this because she made it clear that that wasn’t something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didn’t occur to us,’ the 58-year-old told Hollywood Reporter.

Kim, who has previously said she’s never been friends with her co-stars despite their on-screen chemistry, explained why she made the decision to turn down a third movie to Variety.

‘It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough. I also didn’t want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear.’

Kim, 66, has also spoke about her relationship with Sarah and told Piers Morgan in her Life Stories: ‘I think she could’ve been nicer.’

‘There just isn’t anyone else who’s ever talked about me this way, so it’s very painful,’ Sarah said in response.

Luckily, we all have 24 hours in a day so we can watch both, and some of us may harbour a little bit of hope that the foursome will reunite in some capacity in the future.

And Just Like That will feature the rest of the OG cast – Sarah as lead character Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes and Kirstin Davis as Charlotte York Goldenblatt.

While Samantha may not be coming back, we will see the return of another familiar face – John Corbett’s character Aidan Shaw.

Aiden was an old love interest of the leading lady in the movies and TV show that documented the trials and tribulations of the fashionable columnist.

In the newly released footage, Sarah as Carrie is heard saying: ‘And just like that, I realized some things are better left in the past, but maybe not everything.’

In the first series, we were reunited with the ladies, and it focused on ‘the reality of life and friendship in their 50s’ – taking on quite the journey, from Big’s death to Steve and Miranda’s marriage breakdown.

Season one ended with Carrie revamping her image, while Miranda relocated with her new lover Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) for a fresh start in Los Angeles, and fans were desperate to find out what happens next.

The absence of Samantha was put down to a fallout over Carrie deciding to hire a different PR team for her book.
