Lily Allen has opened up about her adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis and said she now has to restrict her social media usage.

The 2:22 A Ghost Story actress, 37, said she had ‘actually just been diagnosed’ with the condition after a doctor’s appointment in America, where she lives with her husband David Harbour and two children, Ethel and Marnie.

The Smile hitmaker, 37, has previously suggested ADHD, alongside other mental health conditions including bipolar disorder, attachment disorder and postnatal depression.

Lily spoke candidly about ADHD ahead of the premiere of Sharon Horgan’s black comedy Dreamland, which will be her first acting role on TV.

She said: ‘I’ve actually just been diagnosed with adult ADHD. I’ve had to completely switch off social media because as soon as I look at it, it can be hours of my day gone.’

The Times reported she ‘wasn’t surprised’ by the diagnosis, with Lily saying: ‘It sort of runs in my family.’

The No Fear chart topper continued: ‘And it’s only because I’m here in America where they take these things slightly more seriously than they do in England.

‘I went to see someone and they said, “Have you ever thought about this?” And I said, “Well, yes I have”.’

According to the NHS, ADHD is a condition that affects people’s behaviour, which can make them seem restless, have trouble concentrating and act on impulse.
