Officers gave a press conference after Specialist Group International, a private team of divers led by Peter Faulding, had used a sonar device to scan the depths of the Wyre in Lancashire.
Mr Faulding had said: ‘I personally think, if I rule this stretch of water out where we are working today, I don’t think she is here. I think there’s probably a third party involved.’
But Supt Sally Riley responded: ‘Clearly Mr Faulding isn’t included within all the investigation detail any more than the members of the public.’
Pleading for people to hold back from doing anything that would ‘thwart’ police investigations, she added detectives had received 500 pieces of information but had not found ‘anything of note’ yet.

Friend Heather Gibbons said yesterday ‘nothing is making sense’ about the disappearance. She said speculation on social media about the case was hard for the family to read. And she complained that curious visitors, some bringing their children and taking selfies, made the area like a ‘tourist spot’.
But she said she could understand the interest in the mystery because there is so little evidence.
